Product Spotlight: Better Listings Before You Go Live

A good listing starts working before you ever go live.

It's how buyers discover your products, decide whether to click into your show, and figure out if you have what they're looking for. The easier your listings are to create, and the more information they include, the harder they can work for your business.

In June, we shared some of the work we're doing to make listings faster and improve discovery. This month, we're building on that with a few more updates that can save you time, help you decide what to sell next, and make it easier for buyers to find you.

One Product, One Listing: Variants

If you've ever listed the same t-shirt six times because it comes in six sizes, this one's for you. With Variants, you can now keep every size, color, or style in a single listing, then sell them as live auctions or Buy It Now listings.

Choose up to three options, like size, color, and material. We'll build every combination for you, with support for more than 2,000 variants. Each one can have its own price and quantity.

Instead of managing a pile of nearly identical listings, you manage one. Buyers can quickly see what's available, choose the option they want, or ask you to run their size during your show.

How to use it: Start with products you sell in multiple sizes, colors, or styles. One detailed listing is easier to manage, making it easier for buyers to find exactly what they want.

Know What’s Trending Before Your Next Show: Top Trends

One of the easiest ways to decide what to sell is to look at what buyers are already searching for.

That's exactly what Top Trends helps you do. It gives you a real-time look at what's trending on Whatnot, so you can spot demand before your next show. Right now, buyers are searching for Coach, NeeDoh, pins, PS5, squishy toys, jerseys, and Halloween. Those trends are just the starting point. The real opportunity is getting specific.

If you sell Coach, include the bag style. If you sell jerseys, include the player, team, and season. If you sell pins, include the character, franchise, or collection. Buyers usually know exactly what they're looking for, and detailed listings make it much easier for them to find you.

One current trend that caught our eye? Halloween.

Summerween is in full swing, and buyers are already shopping early. Halloween is now one of the top 15 searches on Whatnot, with Halloween orders up more than 150% year over year. Pumpkin décor is up 238%, while goth-inspired costumes and accessories have nearly quadrupled. If spooky season is part of your inventory, now's a good time to bring it forward.

How to use it: Before scheduling your next show, check Top Trends. If something lines up with your inventory, consider featuring it while buyer interest is growing.

Get in Front of the Right Buyers: Brand Tags

Some buyers browse a category. Others already know exactly what brand they're looking for.

That's why we've been investing in Brand Tags. Across categories like Sneakers, Beauty, and Fashion, shows with at least one brand tag tend to generate higher average total sales per show than untagged shows. This reinforces something we've consistently seen: helping buyers find the brands they're looking for leads to better outcomes for sellers.

We saw the same pattern in our product experiments. When we used Brand Tags to improve recommendations, buyers discovered more relevant shows, leading to more watches, bids, and purchases.

Now we're bringing that experience to more categories. Brand shelves are live in Men's Fashion, giving buyers another way to discover shows featuring brands like Nike, Ralph Lauren, and Darc Sport. Electronics sellers can now start adding Brand Tags too, with the buyer experience coming soon. Some of the most searched brands today include Apple, Milwaukee Tools, and DeWalt.

How to use it: Add the exact brand when scheduling your show, then make sure your title, thumbnail, and inventory all match. The more accurately you describe what you're selling, the easier it is for the right buyers to find you.

Happy Selling!
