Selling Tips with Tejas Plants and Gifts

Meet Liezel, the co-owner of Tejas Plants and Gifts, who turned her passion for plants into a thriving business. Her entrepreneurial journey is nothing short of inspiring.

In 2019, Liezel left her home in the Philippines to marry the love of her life, Michael. Adjusting to a new country was a challenge, but Liezel embraced the opportunity with determination and creativity. She began working as a florist at a small shop and spent her weekends learning everything she could about different plant species alongside her husband.

After a few fulfilling years in California, the couple decided to take a leap of faith and move to Texas to start their own business. Liezel’s adventure took an exciting twist when she discovered Whatnot. While live selling initially felt daunting, she quickly found her groove. Now, she’s sharing her top tips to help others succeed on their live-selling journeys.

List Your Items Ahead of Time

Listing items in advance gives your buyers time to browse your offerings before the show starts. Liezel sees this as a way to respect her buyers' time, allowing them to prioritize items they’re interested in rather than waiting for them to run.

Schedule Your Show In Advance

Scheduling your shows ahead of time provides an opportunity to promote them. It’s also a chance to discover what times work best for you. When Liezel first started, she experimented with different days and times to find the sweet spot for traffic.

Invest in Good Lighting and Internet Connection

A well-lit room and a steady internet connection are essential for showcasing your products. Buyers want to clearly see what they’re purchasing, so make sure your setup highlights your items in the best light.

Host Giveaways

Giveaways are a fantastic way to build traffic and attract followers, especially when you’re starting out. Plus, it’s a great way to give back to your audience and show appreciation for their support.

Master Shipping and Logistics

Understanding shipping is crucial for a smooth experience. Liezel uses smart bundling to help her buyers save on shipping costs, which encourages them to purchase multiple items. She also emphasizes the importance of securely packaging products to ensure they arrive in great condition—leading to positive reviews and repeat customers.

Just Get Started and Have Fun

Taking the first step is often the hardest, but it’s worth it. “Have fun and treat every live show as an opportunity to learn,” Liezel says. Listening to your audience and paying attention to reviews will help you continuously improve as a seller.

I encourage you to watch other sellers. Whatnot sellers are the most supportive and friendliest seller community that I know of. They are there to help and uplift each other. When in doubt and still have questions, Whatnot Seller Support is my go-to.
— Liezel

Liezel’s story is a testament to the power of persistence, passion, and community. One of her favorite Whatnot memories is from her very first live show. Despite her nerves and uncertainty, she sold over 100 items thanks to the warmth and patience of her viewers. From that moment, she knew selling plants on Whatnot was her calling, and has never looked back. Be sure to follow Tejasplantsandgifts on Whatnot to connect with Liezel, show your support, and find beautiful plants and gifts to brighten up your space.
