From Seller to Whatnot Employee — Join Us!

Our first and most important value at Whatnot is always listening to customers. It’s at the heart of everything we do, from the products we build to the policies we create to the categories we launch. This focus on being customer-first has guided us since day one; it’s shaped how we’ve grown and adapted to bring you the best experience.

Our commitment to being user-first is reflected in our hiring and employee policies. Not only do we require all employees both buy and sell on Whatnot, several of our full-time employees started their Whatnot journey as sellers themselves. These employees exist across many of our teams and have a unique perspective on what sellers need from our platform. Starting from their first day as a seller and eventually growing their businesses, they bring insights and actions to improve the overall platform experience.

Expanding our Seller to Seller Support Program

One area where we’ve seen an impact is bringing on sellers to Whatnot as customer support agents, which are some of the best examples of great, fast service. By bringing their own experience as a seller on Whatnot, they are able to empathize with sellers and their questions on a different level.

We’re excited to share that we’re expanding the team in 2025 by opening a number of new Seller Support Agent roles specifically geared towards existing sellers on Whatnot. Interested in joining us and driving the best user experience? Please apply here (ignore the location / prior experience requirements; we’re waiving those for sellers!).

Current Seller-to-Seller Support Examples

We’ve hired several Whatnot sellers to join our team full-time, which has deepened our expertise in certain categories:

"At Whatnot, the user is at the forefront of everything we do. Being able to deeply understand user behavior, their pain points, and what they like about Whatnot allows us to continue bettering the experience for them. Being a seller prior to joining Whatnot gave me a really unique experience which I have been able to take with me throughout any role I have served within the company. Specifically when working in CX, understanding the seller POV enabled me to be able to quickly respond to sellers with clear information, help troubleshoot issues, and help inform product changes by being able to surface common seller pain points.

Having been a seller myself before transitioning to a full-time employee, I’ve gained invaluable insights into the seller experience. I learned the ins and outs of starting as a new seller—everything from mastering shipping logistics to developing strategies to attract customers to my shows. This hands-on experience allows me to relate directly to other sellers, especially when they face challenges. I believe it has helped foster more authentic and empathetic relationships, as I’ve gone through those same growing pains and can offer support from a place of genuine understanding.

Starting out as a seller on Whatnot made me super knowledgeable not only about Whatnot as a product, but also about the struggles that we faced as sellers on a day to day basis. When I joined the Whatnot team I had a unique perspective about the challenges sellers faced and was extremely motivated to use that knowledge to help solve some of the common issues I saw every day as a seller myself.

Being a seller first and later an employee (that continues to sell) gives me a unique point of view when it comes to using Whatnot. Being able to use the app and report feedback to improve the seller experience and gather insights from other Whatnot sellers in our Discord server and other social platforms lets me see issues more holistically so I am better able to prioritize feedback. After selling on and working at Whatnot for more than 4 years, I’m still really excited to be able to use the platform and help effect positive improvements.

Having the experience already as a seller, you can truly understand the people you are helping to a high caliber because you know the process firsthand and that is a major advantage both to you, the company, and to the users that you are assisting. The level of familiarity and understanding of the product allows me to provide top-tier service, and that makes me excited to log on each day and provide world-class service to our users.

Looking Ahead

We can’t wait to see what’s in store this year as we build Whatnot together, and we look forward to seeing more sellers join our team.
